named following a national search for 
the perfect boat to join the St. Louis 
riverfront. The 1963 riverboat that 
previously carried the name was sold 
to Memphis Riverboats in 2024. The 
new Becky Thatcher is approximately 
31 percent larger than its predecessor.
Following the purchase, $3.2 million 
was invested in repairs and renovations 
at a shipyard near Mobile, Ala., under 
the oversight of the U.S. Coast Guard. 
Renovations to the Becky Thatcher 
were designed to enhance guest expe-
rience, improve safety and longevity, 
and modernize vessel operations. 
Updates included addressing structur-
al integrity with extensive replacement 
of the hull; a comprehensive overhaul 
and modernization of steering, me-
chanical, and electrical systems; and 
all-new interior decor and high-ef-
ficiency HVAC units for improved 
passenger comfort. 
These improvements provide guests 
with a refreshed and comfortable en-
vironment while maintaining the his-
toric character of the fleet. The pur-
chase and improvements were funded 
through existing riverboat revenue.
After completing renovations, the Becky 
Thatcher began its journey from the 
Gulf Coast to the St. Louis riverfront, 
a trip that took approximately 10 days. 
In the coming couple of weeks, the boat 
will complete U.S. Coast Guard certifi-
cations and staff safety training before 
welcoming its first passengers. 
The Becky Thatcher is the first new riverboat on the St. Louis waterfront in nearly forty years.
