D e p a r t m e n t o f Transportation is currently soliciting proposals for competitive grants for National Infrastructure Investments, including ferry transportation infra- structure. Formerly known as the TIGER Discretionary Grant program, the program has been renamed the BUILD (“Better Utilizing Investments t o L e v e r a g e D e v e l o p m e n t ” ) Transportation Discretionary Grants program. $1.5 billion will be distributed in this funding round. Applications must be submitted by 8:00 p.m. E.D.T. on July 18, 2018. BUILD grants are for capital projects. Successful projects must have a significant local or regional impact. The maximum grant award is $25 million, and no more than $150 million can be awarded to a single state. The minimum grant size will be $5 million, except that for projects located in rural areas the minimum BUILD grant size is $1 million. At least $450 million will be awarded for grants to rural areas. The maximum federal contribution for a grant for a project in an urban area is 80 percent, but the maximum federal percentage can be higher for a rural project. Eligible applicants are State, local, and tribal governments, including U.S. territories, transit agencies, port au- thorities, metropolitan planning orga- nizations (MPOs), and other political subdivisions of State or local govern- ments.
