This 300-passenger, 280-foot passenger/vehicle ferry was designed by Elliott Bay Designer Group and is being built by Vigor. Bay Ship & Yacht Co., BAE Systems, Red and White Fleet, and Incat Crowther are working together to design, build, study, and operate the nation’s first zero-emission passenger vessel propelled by 360 kW proton exchange membrane hydrogen fuel cells powered by dual 300 kW electric motors using independent electric drivetrains and lithium-ion battery packs. The 70-foot aluminum catamaran will have a 22-knot top speed with delivery expected in mid-2019. Fire Island Ferries, Bay Shore, NY Shipbuilder: Blount Boats, Warren, RI This new 85-foot aluminum ferry will provide service between Bay Shore and Fire Island on New York’s Great South Bay. The triple screw vessel will be built and certified under U.S. Coast Guard, Subchapter K rules and regulations. It will be powered by John Deere Model #6135SFM85 diesel engines, 650HP each at 2,100 RPM with 2:1 ZF 550 reduction gears. The sister ship of the Blount Boat-built Fire Islander (in service since 2013), the new ferry is scheduled for delivery in late spring 2019. Fisher Island Community Association, Elliott Bay Design Group, and St. John’s Shipbuilding have teamed up to build two 152-foot, passenger/vehicle ferries. Each can carry 150 passengers and both the Eagle II and the Pelican II should be delivered in 2019. Kitsap Transit, Bremerton, WA Naval Architect/Designer: Glosten, Seattle, WA Shipbuilder: All American Marine This passenger ferry will carry up to 118 passengers and be propelled by a hybrid-electric system. It is scheduled to be delivered in January 2019. Miller Boat Line of Put-in-Bay, OH, is working with Elliott Bay Design Group to designer a 140-foot passenger/vehicle ferry with a capacity to carry 600 passengers. The M/V Mary Ann Market is scheduled for delivery in 2019.
