The Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Fund might be that source. You’ve probably seen the news about how the automaker admitted that it sold vehicles with falsified emissions/mileage claims. As part of an agreement to settle legal charges brought by the federal government, VW is placing almost $3 billion into an Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund. The monies are to be applied to actions that remediate the amount of excess nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the illegally-marketed vehicles. An independent organization (Wilmington Trust, N.A.) is admin- istering the trust funds. Allocations of the funds will be made to each state, the amounts depending on how many noncompliant au- tomobiles were sold/ registered in each jurisdic- tion. No state receives less than $8 million, but many states receive consider- ably more. For example, California is allocated $422 million; New York gets $127 million; Washington State receives nearly $112 million; Virginia, $93 million; North Carolina, $92 million; Ohio is allocated Look into Volkswagen Trust Fund Plan for Money to Repower Vessels “VW is placing almost $3 billion into an Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund.
