Engaging General Sessions Among the Coast Guard officers in attendance was Rear Admiral John Nadeau who was the speaker for the opening general session. He focused on three main points: the Coast Guard/PVA partnership, the results of the El Faro investiga- tion, and Coast Guard priorities that he will be addressing under his watch as Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy. These priorities include third parties, the adaptation to emerging technologies such as cyber, new fuel options, and autonomous vessels. He also commended the passenger vessel industry for its continued safety record. “For two decades the Coast Guard and PVA have enjoyed vibrant, relevant, and impactful collaboration, and our tangible shared achievements illustrate the benefits of our partner- ship,” RADM Nadeau said. “The Coast Guard remains fully committed to our mutual goals and objectives.” Greg Klassen, a destination tourism marketing expert, en- couraged listeners to rethink what we think we know about travel and tourism and what we believe visitors want.
