MARCH 2018 • FOGHORN 17 FOGHORNFOCUS: CONVENTION REVIEW PVA Hall of Fame It’s not often that a PVA member is inducted into the PVA Hall of Fame, but that’s exactly what happened at the PVA President’s Closing Dinner aboard the Georgia Queen in Savannah, GA on January 30. A founder of the Association, Capt. Bob Lumpp was honored for his vision of establish- ing an organization for the owners of passenger vessel operations, and his execution for making this vision a reality that has lasted more than four decades and has become the preemi- nent voice for our industry. Capt. Lumpp was presented an engraved bell by PVA Gus Gaspardo and was toasted by PVA members who owe their careers to him. Alan Bernstein, B.B. Riverboats, Covington, KY and Steve Terry, Mark Twain River Cruises, Hannibal, MO, spoke of Capt. Lumpp’s larger-than-life personal- ity and attention to detail that sparked their lifelong passion for working on the water as passenger vessel operators. Capt. Lumpp gratefully accepted the accolade with the style and humor for which he is known that ended with an extended standing ovation for the newest member of the PVA Hall of Fame. Other inductees are Capt. Bill Bowell, Padelford Packet Boat Company, St. Paul, MN, Dick Lynn, River City USA, Kansas City, MO and Capt. Elizabeth Gedney. PVA Members Recognized for Industry Accomplishments Members of the passenger vessel industry are an accomplished group. And, there’s no better setting than the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2018 to recognize that fact in a number of ways. PVA member Capt. Robert Lumpp addresses PVA members after receiving being inducted into the PVA Hall of Fame.
