New Leadership Captain Mike McElroy started his maritime career in 1988 with Mercury Sightseeing in Chicago. During his time with Mercury he served in the capacity of vessel captain/ crew achieving his 100 ton Master’s license in 1995, and worked his way up to Chief of Vessel Operations, Chief of Marine Operations, Port Engineer, Company and Vessel Security Officer, U.S. Coast Guard regulatory liaison and Chief Engineer for Mercury’s fleet. In his spare time, he did delivery work within intercostal, Atlantic, and near-shore Gulf waters. In 2011, he moved to Wendella Sightseeing and Chicago Water Taxi where he currently serves as Director of Marine Operations, Chief Security Officers, and Designated Person Ashore. Captain McElroy was awarded the Coast Guard Meritorious public service award in 2011 and the PVA Roger Murphy National Marine Safety Award in 2012. He has served a Vice Chair since 2014. Captain Ben Bernstein began his career in 1995 in the food service operations of BB Riverboats in Cincinnati. Becoming proficient as a deckhand and in the navigational crew duties over his initial years, he chose to sit for his 100 ton Master’s License shortly after his 19th birthday, making him the youngest person to obtain a Captain’s license. Upon comple- tion of his college degree in Business Management from the University of Kentucky in 2004, he moved into an executive Safety and Security Committee – New Leadership, New Products and Same Commitment
