Very few interns from the Academy get to say they did anything comparable during their internships. I also learned why the staff at PVA works as hard as they do: it’s because they are working for the best business- es, and members in the industry. I was fortunate enough to meet a good majority of the members that attended the convention and from our conver- sations and time spent together it became real to me that the Passenger Vessel Association really has something special going for them: a strong mem- bership. This is a membership that cares about the health of theAssociation as well as the health of the passenger vessel industry as a whole; something membership and staff should be extremely proud of. To those that I didn’t get the pleasure of meeting during this convention, I hope to meet you in Savannah. My internship with PVA is over. I’m back in Cape Cod, Massachusetts knowing that I was a part of something exceptional even if it was only for two short months. The old saying is right: “Time flies when you’re having fun.” Best of luck to all of PVA members and staff. n The Passenger Vessel Foundation held its annual PVA Region Competition at the PVAAnnual Convention at MariTrends 2017 in Seattle. This fun team-building activity raised awareness and funds for the Foundation that supports safety and educa- tional endeavors for the passenger vessel industry. Between this year’s event, a rousing tug-of-war competition and its first-ever Silent Auction, held throughout much of the Convention, the Foundation raised over $8,400, much of which will be given as educational scholarships to those who wish to work in the passenger vessel industry. n FOUNDATION RAISES $8,400 AT CONVENTION
