Casualty Reporting Thresholds The first item was the much anticipated Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for adjusting casualty reporting dollar thresholds to reflect more realistic levels than the dollar figures set decades ago. In short, the U.S. Coast Guard is proposing to adjust the $25,000 casualty reporting threshold upward to $72,000 and the significant marine incident (SMI) from $100,000 upward to $200,000 using the Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) published by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. There was discus- sion about other indexes that may exist because there was a feeling that shipyard and general repair costs may have outpaced the CPI-U index. There was also a feeling that $75,000 was a better-remembered number $72,000. There is not much difference between an upward adjustment totaling $47,000 2570 Beverly Dr. #128, Aurora, IL 60502 T 630.236.3500 CENTA Power trAnsmIssIon LeADIng By InnovAtIon • USA based production • Over 20 unique designs • Over 16 million sold • Torsional vibration experts Trust CENTA – The Global Innovator Since 1970 CENTALINK Carbon Fiber Driveshafts Innovative flexible couplings for marine applications
