He said the target score is 85. • Rear Admiral Joseph Servidio, United States Coast Guard RADM Servidio, Deputy Commander of the Atlantic Area, is a familiar face to many PVA Vessel members. In fact, he knows many vessel operators by name and by sight. The Rear Admiral has attended many PVA functions over the years and is very much aware of many of the concerns facing the passenger vessel industry. RADM Servidio’s career—he graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1982—has given him insight and experience in virtually all maritime aspects in sectors across the nation, including billets in Marine Inspection Offices and Marine Safety Offices with responsibilities in waterways management, navigation and boating safety, commercial vessels, ports and facilities, merchant mariner credentialing, vessel documentation, marine casualty investigation, inspec- tions, and port state control. These duties have allowed him to cross paths with passenger vessel operators many times of the years and provide him with an understanding of our industry and concerns. Speaking to a large crowd, RADM Servidio explained some of the chal- lenges facing the Coast Guard in relation the passenger vessel industry. He cited Subchapter M’s fleet of 6,000 vessels that will require inspections ef- fectively doubling the fleet of inspected vessels in the U.S. He said that while Coast Guard Districts 11 and 13 should have no difficulties with the increase, other districts, District 8 in particular, may be a challenge. The Rear Admiral assured the audience that the Coast Guard fully expects to meet the needs, however.
