PVA Vessel member Shoreline Marine Co. (also known as Shoreline Sightseeing), Chicago, IL, has taken delivery of the M/V Skyview, a 318-passenger steel, Subchapter K architectural tour boat that will operate in Chicago’s partially protected waters. Designed by PVA A s s o c i a t e m e m b e r Seacraft Design, LLC, Sturgeon Bay, WI, and built by PVA Associate member Blount Boats, Warren, RI, the vessel was specifically designed with a recessed pilothouse to meet the air draft requirements for navigating the waterways of Chicago. Along with the spectacular Chicago skyline, the vessel features handcrafted mahogany doors, railings and bench seating, full-service bar, a 20-keg beer cooler, heated restrooms, a 430-pound ice machine, and air-conditioning. PVAAssociate members make the Skyview move. It is powered by twin Volvo D13 MH, 400 hp diesel engines with twin 65kW John Deere generators, ZF W325 gearboxes, and equipped with twin 44-inch diameters, 4-blade propellers and Kobelt Steering. n Island living, while unique with breathtaking views, can be challenge, espe- cially for receiving goods. For the residents and visitors to Massachusetts’ tony islands Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, life just got easier thanks to the newly delivered M/V Woods Hole. Operated by PVA Vessel member Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority, Woods Hole, MA, the new ferry will carry necessary goods and freight to the islands as well as doubling as passenger and vehicle ferry. Designed by PVAAssociate member Elliott Bay Design Group, Seattle, WA, the Woods Hole is a 235’-foot single- ended ferry with a bow thruster and a service speed of 14.5 knots. The vessel is designed to be primarily a “super freight boat” that, when not carrying a full freight load, also serves as a passenger and car ferry carrying up to 384 passengers and 55 cars. The boat is capable of carrying one million pounds of tractor-trailer freight within hard constraints of maximum draft, length, and beam. Due to careful planning and study, freight deck loading and unloading is very efficient. Operating environment require- ments drove many of the design features. Shallow water turbulence and bottom scouring is a factor for several of the ports, so this vessel incor- porates controllable pitch propellers to minimize propeller wake wash when accelerating. High lift rudders and a directionally vectorable bow thruster enable tight maneuvering, and the vessel can turn in its own length. Noise mitigation was also given high priority, and it is noticeably quieter both on board and on shore. n New Steamship Authority Ferry Provides Double Duty to Massachusetts Islands Co-owners Matt and Chip Collopy had this to say about Shoreline’s most recently acquired boat: “Blount Boats did its usual fine job in delivering another solid, well- built boat, which we eagerly anticipate putting into service even as the season winds down. The Skyview proudly joins Shoreline’s fleet of 17 vessels that we are privileged to use in service to the city of Chicago and its many visitors each season.” Shoreline Sightseeing has New Architectural Tour Boat ABS Americas.........................................8 All American Marine..............................25 Aon Risk Management...........................33 Blount Boats, Inc,...................................18 Burger Boat Company..............................9 Carus AB Ltd.........................................29 Centa Corporation.................................24 DBC Marine - Survitec............................10 Dejong and Lebet..................................26 Driveline Service of Portland, Inc.............30 Freedman Seating Company...................30 Furuno USA, Inc....................................28 GPLINK LLC...........................................22 Hamilton Jet..........................................22 Horizon Shipbuilding.............................15 HUMPHREE® USA LLC...........................26 Incat Crowther Pty Ltd.............................14 International Workboat Show..................33 Jensen Maritime Consultants...................24 John Deere Power Systems......................30 Kobelt...................................................28 Liferaft Systems Australia.........................13 MCM...................................................27 Metal Shark Aluminum Boats...................17 Motor Services Hugo Stamp...................36 MTU.....................................................35 Port Supply/West Marine.......................18 Scania USA............................................7 Springfield Group..................................20 Starboard Suite.....................................23 Trans4media.........................................30 Twin Disc, Inc..........................................2 UES Seating..........................................16 Vigor Industrial......................................12 Viking Life-Saving Equipment...................11 Virtual Ticketing Solutions.......................19 VT Halter Marine...................................27 WheelHouse Technologies, Inc................20 M/V Woods Hole M/V Skyview
