PVA members actively work to ensure that there are robust security measures in place at their opera- tions. PVA knows this and continu- ally updates members on what the new issues in the security arena are, how these issues impact their opera- tions, and steps they should take to remain vigilant. PVA engages with Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and law en- forcement to continue a strong security posture in the passenger vessel industry. Recently, PVA attended the Coast Guard’s Annual Workshop for National Alternate Security Program (ASP) Sponsoring Organizations. While at this event, PVA received security policy updates from Coast Guard, Transportation Security Administration, and a variety of industry organizations. Here is an overview of the important policy updates that most impact your business. TWIC Reader Rule The date for implementing the TWIC Reader rule at certain facili- ties is quickly approaching, August 23, 2018 to be exact. While thank- fully TWIC readers were not required on PVA-type vessels, because of the Coast Guard’s risk assessment, there will be some facilities which will require readers. There has been some pushback from industry requesting a
