30 MAY 2018 • FOGHORN HOW PVA BENEFITS YOU By Jen Wilk, Director, Public Affairs and Development PVA Working For You Participating in Industry Days: Getting the Word Out on the Issues that Impact Your Business T his spring, PVA staff has been participating in U.S. Coast Guard/Passenger Vessel Industry Day meetings around the country, talking with operators and reg- ulators alike on the issues that impact your business. PVA staff has participated in 12 different Industry Day meetings, covering a variety of different port areas spanning the nation including Long Beach, CA, Brooklyn, NY, Chicago, IL and Portland, ME just to name a few. The Coast Guard invited PVAto present at each of these meetings on the issues impacting passenger vessel operators. While at these events, PVA staff had the opportunity to speak with several hundred people in the passenger vessel industry nationwide. For example, the Boston, MA, Seattle, WA and Buffalo, NY meetings combined involved more than 277 attendees, including represen- tatives from more than 28 PVA vessel member companies and 92 prospective vessel member companies. Industry Day meetings are valuable forums for vessel operating companies, like yours. These events provide critical updates on new Coast Guard and other regulatory policies. They also provide a venue for meeting local Coast Guard personnel including inspections staff. As you know, maintaining good working relationships with your local Coast Guard staff is important. These events also provide the opportunity for open conversations about policy interpretation and how the implemen- tation of regulation actually plays out in everyday operations.
