Maine Maritime Academy’s oceanside campus and waterfront facilities are an ideal location for a comprehensive ocean-based science education. Whether it’s aboard the research vessel Friendship, in our waterfront classrooms and wet labs, or receiving a SCUBA certification, students develop an awareness of the ocean environment and of human impact on the ocean’s ecosystems. MMA offers the only program of its type in the U.S.: a five-year dual degree program joining Marine Biology or Marine Science and Small Vessel Operations. This popular offering combines a passion for science with a love of vessels, navigation and boat handling. Graduates receive a Bachelor’s and Associate’s degree and qualify for the U.S. Coast Guard 200-ton Mate license. How MMA Benefits Passenger Vessel Operators Out of all of the educational support for students pursuing their selected majors – faculty, staff, simulators, labs and other facilities, classroom time and academic services – the most important part of our students’ careers is their hands-on training. Our relationships with industry, and the real-life opportu- nities our students experience, as well as the opportunity for them to build professional connections and mentors, is truly the most important part of their education. Many asked me at the PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2018 in Savannah why Maine Maritime Academy was in attendance. The simple answer is to provide opportuni- ties for our students, and to be part of your industry, providing insight into crewing and personnel issues. We have seen many of the regulatory changes you are experiencing and we can be of assistance with your upcoming chal- lenges. If we can provide you with one excellent employee, make one lifetime connection, or facilitate a productive mentor-mentee relationship, my time and efforts will have been successful. Maine Maritime Academy is very excited to be a part of the PVA, and we are looking forward to longstanding involvement with the organization. n MAY 2018 • FOGHORN 11 FOGHORNFOCUS: HUMAN RESOURCES IMTRA COLORS 2016 Primary Use Secondary Use Blue Pantone 647 96C 54M 5Y 27K Pantone Cool Gray 7 20C 14M 12Y 40K Pantone Cool Gray 2 5C 3M 5Y 11K Black 0C 0M 0Y 100K Pantone 368 65C 0M 100Y 0K Pantone 629 36C 0M 9Y 0K The Trusted Source for Quality Systems THRUSTERS • LIGHTING • SEATING • TRIM CONTROL • WIPERS • CONTROLS www.imtra.com 102 121,4 56
