AUGUST 2018 • FOGHORN 31 SAFETYMATTERS • A vessel that docks with regularity at a specific time and location every day. • There is a uniformed captain or crew on board. • No state registration numbers or a vessel name displayed. • A vessel is observed carrying homogenous groups of people at different times throughout the day. (For example: all children, all women, all dressed the same) • There is a catering and/or bar set-up on the vessel. • Social media posts or online reviews that indicate any of the above information in text or photo: Example: “My bachelorette party was a great success. Captain Gary was great! He had all the food and wine ready for us when we arrived. I was so happy that he was able to accommodate all 20 of us on his boat. It was a great value for the money.” Moving Forward Despite our advances we need to keep the pressure up and continue our engagement with the Coast Guard, Harbor Safety Committees, local marinas and dock owners, and the public. Our ultimate goal is to make those that consider operating illegally think twice and opt not to do so. Education and enforcement are keys to our success. Financial gain must be countered by unacceptable risk, both for boat owners and public safety. n PVA WELCOMES NEW MEMBER Custom Marine Mr. Evan DʼAgostino Montrose, NY Vessel Member PVA CALENDAR September 18-19, 2018 PVA Southeast Region Meeting Meeting aboard Yacht Starship IV at Clearwater Marina 25 Causeway Boulevard Clearwater Beach, FL October 22-24, 2018 PVA Great Lakes Region Meeting Lilac Trees Suites & Spa Mackinac Island, MI October 30 - November 1, 2018 PVA Western Region Meeting Hyatt Regency Maui Lahaina, HI November 7-9, 2018 PVA Original Colonies Region Meeting Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor Boston, MA November 14-16, 2018 PVA Rivers Region Meeting Meeting on Gateway Arch Riverboat Company's M/V Becky Thatcher St. Louis, MO January 17-20, 2019 PVA Annual Convention at MariTrends 2019 Hyatt Regency New Orleans, LA
