It turns out the GCF Bobcat was a boy, about 20 pounds, with green eyes and big FANGS! He was transport- ed to the Humane Animal Rescue’s Wildlife Center about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh for a check-up. He was in great condition. After his stay at the resort, he was going to be released on state game lands in a rural county. Speaking with the animal control officers, Captain Brian, Joe D’Amico, Chief Mate Aaron Snider and the crew learned that while it is known that bobcats are in Pennsylvania it is very rare to see them, let alone capture one. According to one of the officers, the last time a bobcat was seen and captured in Western Pennsylvania was about 15 years ago. And that was in the woods, not on a riverboat in the city! While our time with the bobcat was “fleeting,” it is an experience none of us at the Gateway Clipper will ever forget. n LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CONTINUED FROM PAGE 5 EDITOR’S NOTE: If you’ve had an unusual experience at your passenger vessel operation, please share it with FOGHORN.
