It is definitely not a one size fits all proposition but a very exciting one both environmentally and eco- nomically for operators. Builders are uniquely positioned to help optimize solutions to specific mission profiles to take full advantage of the new technol- ogies available.  Is technology going to be a major game changer for constructing passenger vessels? Yes. Vigor sees hybrid and zero emission marine propulsion technolo- gy as a game changer. We are at a point in time where energy storage technol- ogy is inexpensive enough and dense enough for electric marine propulsion to be competitive with conventional diesel propulsion for certain ferry routes. For any ferry type you can chart the cost of operation as a curve and for using conventional fuels like diesel that curve tends to go up and up with the in- creasing scarcity of fuel and the increas- ing emissions regulations meanwhile the cost for electric power is consistent- ly decreasing with the decreased cost of energy storage and the decreased cost of renewable energy generation. There’s a point at which those two curves intersect making hybrid or zero emissions vessels the most efficient choice. Vigor is actively engaged to take advantage of this evolution in marine transportation. Obviously, the decision matrix is complex depending upon each vessels route and mission profile but for many ferry operators this will be game changer for operations and a cleaner environment.  Will the new EPA Tier 4 regulations make a difference to vessel construction? If so, how? The new EPATier 4 regs are a strong step in the right direction for reducing emissions and contributing to greener ferry operations. While many systems are still in the development phase, the after-treatment systems required to ef- fectively clean particulate matter from the engine exhaust add considerable weight and complexity to a vessel. New construction or conversions must address these changes to find the optimal balance between vessel per- formance and environmental impact. Consulting a builder early in the process with experience balancing the key factors of route, capacity and speed is a good way to ensure needed perfor- mance is maintained and goals for a cleaner environment are met.  Which markets within the passenger vessel industry are growing in terms of new construction? Ferries? Water taxis? Sightseeing vessels? Whale watching/ Eco-Tour boats? Dinner boats?  As mentioned above, the demand for tourism vessels has been strong and remains so. The most growth at present
