The PVF Scholarship program promotes professionalism, safety, and opportunity within the field for those individuals currently employed, or who wish to become employed, in the segment of maritime service represent- ed by U.S. domestic passenger vessels. Grants are awarded with a focus on ed- ucational assistance; research; training and the improvement of safety within the maritime industry. “The Foundation Trustees are pleased to announce that we will award up to $28,000 to deserving indi- viduals this year,” said Rob McMahon, President of the Passenger Vessel Foundation. “This is the highest funding amount the Foundation has ever done and we’re able to do so because of the generous donations from PVA members who are committed to helping the Foundation provide edu- cational assistance to those individuals who are interested in pursuing in the passenger vessel industry.” Employers benefit from Foundation grants because these scholarships may be available to any qualified applicant, and it does not require any financial output from the operation. Employers can—and should—encourage qualified employees to apply for the Foundation scholarships, which are offered twice each year. In addition, operators may find that they will have better educated, better trained, and happier employees because they are fulfilling their needs for new developing skills and learning new concepts that benefit both the worker and the company. To notify employees about this opportunity for educational grant money, PVA members are encour- aged to download a free poster and post it in visible areas throughout your operation.
