DECEMBER 2017 • FOGHORN 31 SAFETYMATTERS on the PVA website under Safety and Security Tools or by clicking on the link pva.marinels.com. Each vessel-oper- ating member company was assigned and provided a user ID and password in order to log into the content. If you need login information please contact me at echristensen@passengervessel. com. The login information can be provided to your employees, so they have free access to PVA crew training materials. The Learning Management System is designed so that feedback can be provided by users throughout the training modules. Through feedback we can continue to refine the training content and make sure it is relevant to members. New Security Templates In the spring of 2017, the Safety and Security Committee completed work on developing templates for common security drills. Security drills were distilled down to seven base drills as follows: • Awareness • Suspicious person/activity • Suspicious bag • Breech of Security • Attempted boarding • Bomb threat • Active shooter The order of the templates follows a progression of severity from general awareness for everyday operations to an active shooter situation, which is considered a low probability, high con- sequence event. In addition, a security drill primer was developed to outline drill basics and how to plan and execute drills throughout the year. Additional reading materials on security related topics are also provided and will be updated as relevant materials are approved by the committee. The new security templates and information can be accessed through the Member Resources tab on the PVA website under Safety and Security Tools. In the Member Download area scroll down to Security Tools. “Old School” Training Materials TSA and the National Transit Institute have a number of DVDs available and most members should find them helpful. Those that include short modules and testing at the end of each module are particularly beneficial to keep people engaged in the training. Some of the training DVDs, such as Crowd Control for Passenger Vessels and Terminals includes a printable certificate for those that successfully complete the training. Even though the TSA content is now online as part of the PVA training portal, PVA maintains a stock of all the DVDs listed in Table 1 and they are available to all members free of charge. While some of the online material is tactical in nature, such as dealing with an active shooter, others are more educational by providing information EASY MANEUVERABILITY Give your passengers a smooth ride with reliable John Deere PowerTech™ propulsion and generator drive engines.
