PVA is working for you to provide the tools and resources to help keep your company in the best position to mitigate these new security risks. Cybersecurity in the ASP The most recent revision of PVA’s Alternate Security Program, which was updated this past fall and approved by the U.S. Coast Guard in September, now contains new information on cy- bersecurity, which was not required in the previous version approved five years ago. The ASP encourages increased awareness and training regarding cybersecurity and suggests that operators consider incorporating available best management practices when it comes to mitigating cyber risk. The ASP contains an explanation of the terms of cybersecurity and breach of cybersecurity, as defined by the Coast Guard. Also, these definitions clarify that a breach of cybersecurity is only applicable to activity that could result in a Transportation Security Incident. The ASP also provides in- structions on how to report such cyber activity to the new National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center (NCCIC), which is a part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
