The vessel was specifically designed with a recessed pilot- house to meet the air draft requirements for navigating the waterways of Chicago. Grey Lady IV, Catamaran Ferry Vessel Operator: Hy-Line Cruises, Hyannis, MA Shipbuilder: Gladding- Hearn, Somerset, MA Naval Architect/ Designer: Incat Crowther, New South Wales, Australia Specifications: The 158-ft aluminum ferry has a passenger capacity of 493 (and seven crew), top speed of 35 knots; features four EPA Tier 3 Cummins engines, two EPA Tier 3 Cummins generators, and four HamiltonJet waterjets. The capacity increase was at odds with docking constraints so the wheelhouse was moved to a third deck, freeing up the front end of the second deck for VIP passengers. With the increased passenger capacity and the addition of a service class, a mid-deck door and stair towers were designed to aid boarding arrangements and passenger flow. Other features include increased luggage storage areas and a VIP cabin with a forward facing view.
