PVA’s Training Videos Are Now Online B y the time you read this, the safety training materials developed by dedicated members of the PVA Safety and Security Committee over the years should be available online. Increasing the availability of training to members has been a focus of the PVA Safety and Security Committee over the past couple years under the leadership of Captain Bob Lawler of Entertainment Cruises. What started out as VHS tapes, DVDs, and paper manuals has now been brought into the 21st century thanks to a coordinated effort by the PVA Safety and Security Committee, PVA staff, and PVA Associate Member Marine Learning Systems (MLS), Vancouver, BC. In a letter of agreement signed in August, PVA and MLS established the terms under which MLS would take PVA training content and convert it into computer-based training for use by PVA members as part of a Learning Management System. Marine Learning Systems further agreed to host the content and make it available free of charge to PVA members. The online content contains the following PVA videos and manuals: • Basic Firefighting • Life Saving Equipment • Line Handling • Personnel Safety • Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls In addition to the videos and manuals, users will be able to take online quizzes to test knowledge retention of the subject matter.
