PVA knows security is important to our members and here are some of the updates on security topics talked about at the meeting. Cybersecurity Cybersecurity risk management for the marine industry is a growing priority with the Coast Guard. Currently, the Coast Guard is focusing on outreach and awareness to industry on this issue. The Coast Guard is em- phasizing identifying and assessing vulnerabilities. They are pointing to the steps in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework as a guide for carrying out these practices. Additionally, Coast Guard is in the final approval stages of a draft Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular (NVIC) on cybersecurity. This guidance will focus on cyber risk management, best practices, and as- sessments and will only focus on the electronic systems that integrate marine operations and navigation. When released, (no date was indicated) the NVIC will be available for public comment and feedback.
