One of the ways PVA accom- plishes this is with our primary regulator, the U.S. Coast Guard, to collaboratively work to continuously improve safety throughout the industry. Several times a year, PVA sits down with senior Coast Guard leader- ship at our Quality Partnership meetings to examine nationwide trends, develop best practices, create new programs, and clarify policy. Partnering together, PVA and the Coast Guard find non-regulatory ways to make progress towards their shared missions of promoting healthy safety and business environments. Recently, PVA held its Quality Partnership meeting with Coast Guard, and while there discussed updates on a number of initiatives. On the topic of illegal charters, those operations that are carrying passengers for hire but skirting Coast Guard safety regula- tions, PVA and Coast Guard have been working to increase “The Coast Guard reported that it has conducted 651 enforcement actions against illegal charter operators over the last three years.”
