52 FOGHORN PHOTO: EASTERN SHIPBUILDING MEMBER NEWS T he Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national association representing the U.S. shipbuilding, maintenance, and repair industry, announced its annual member safety awards for the 2025 calendar year. Four PVA members are among the 21 shipyards and repair facilities receiving awards this year to recognize their achievements in safety. Year after year, the shipbuilding in- dustry continues to improve its safety performance, enabling U.S. shipyards to adapt their operations and effec- tively address challenges as they arise. Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, La., and Detyens Shipyards, Inc. of Charleston, S.C., were honored with the Award for Excellence in Safety. This award recognizes shipyards that achieved a total recordable incident rate (TRIR) below the Shipbuilders Council of America industry average. The PVA members honored with the Award for “Improvement in Safety” were Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, La.; Eastern Shipbuilding Group of Panama City, Fla.; and Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding of Sturgeon Bay, Wis. These shipyards were recognized for having achieved a 10 percent or greater reduction in TRIR compared to the previous year. Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, La., also received the Award for Sig- nificant Safety Achievement which recognizes shipyards that maintain a TRIR below 1.0. SCA member companies are eligible for a safety award by submitting the SCA Injury & Illness Survey for all four quarters, reporting zero fatalities within the year, and meeting one of the following criteria: maintaining a TRIR below the SCA average or achieving a year-over-year TRIR re- duction of 10 percent or more.
