The great thing about a con- vention is that the program organizer has already done that and identi- fied the topics you need to know and has recruited speakers who have the expertise to present the information. And, attendees have the ability to ASK QUESTIONS to clarify how this new information applies to their workplace. Network Sharing information is one of best ways to problem solve. By going to a professional or trade-sponsored edu- cational event, you’re sure to find other people who are dealing with the same issues you are. Swapping solutions with another vessel operator could be a game-changer for your company. Share When you send three people, or more, to the convention, they have the ability to cover a wider range of sessions to absorb a great deal of in- formation to bring back to work. And, here’s where it gets even better: the three convention attendees can then SHARE the information with coworkers back at the operation, dis- persing the new knowledge even further. Perspective What’s the best way to combat “but we’ve always done it that way” at work? Leave work behind for a while and interact with others who do things differently. Maybe you’ll find your way is the best way. Or, you may discover that trying something new just could be the change your operation needs.
