MARAD Announces FY 2026 Small Shipyard Grant Funding Opportunity

The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) has released the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the FY 2026 Small Shipyard Grant Program, officially opening this year’s application cycle and making $35 million available for competitive grant awards.

The Small Shipyard Grant Program provides funding to support capital improvements and maritime training programs through equipment upgrades and workforce training that enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and workforce productivity in U.S. shipyards. These investments play a critical role in supporting the shipbuilding and repair capacity that underpins the U.S.-flag passenger vessel fleet.

Key Details:

  • Applications Due: May 11, 2026
  • Awards Announced By: July 10, 2026
  • Typical Award Size: Approximately $1 million per project
  • Eligible Uses: Equipment and capital improvements, as well as workforce training programs
  • Apply: Grants.gov

Applications will be evaluated based on statutory criteria such as efficiency gains, workforce development, and the ability to leverage federal funding, along with considerations like domestic sourcing and the use of innovative technologies. Since its inception in 2008, the program has awarded more than 380 grants totaling over $320 million.

PVA strongly encourages members and affiliated shipyards to review the NOFO and consider applying. The Small Shipyard Grant Program will be a key focus of PVA’s upcoming Congressional Fly-In as we continue to advocate for sustained and increased investment in this critical program.
