American Cruise Lines Christens American Pioneer, Announces New Builds

American Cruise Lines recently christened its newest cruise ship, American Pioneer, in Key West, Fla. This is the twenty-first ship in the American Cruise Lines fleet. The inaugural cruise followed the company’s new 16-Day Grand Florida Coast & Keys itinerary.

American Pioneer’s christening celebration included cruise guests, local partners, and community members. All attendees gathered on the ship’s top deck for the official blessing and ceremonial bottle smash, followed by a reception in the ship’s sky lounge. Charles B. Robertson, president & CEO of American Cruise Lines, gave remarks as did Danise “Dee Dee” Henriquez, Mayor of Key West. She also christened one of the Line’s coastal cats, American Legend, in February 2025.

The event came on the heels of American Cruise Lines’ announcement of ten new vessels it will be introducing, starting with American Pioneer. The vessel is the second new patriot class ship the company launched this year, and the balance of the order will be delivered over the next three years. All of the new cruise ships will sail domestically, operating itineraries across the Line’s growing portfolio, including the Mississippi River, Alaska, and the East Coast. The new ships will also accelerate American’s expansion into new niche markets such as the Great Lakes, the Arkansas River, and National Parks cruises.

Following American Pioneer’s inaugural sailing, the company’s orderbook will feature five new American riverboats, and four more patriot class ships which are a part of the Line’s ongoing Project Blue series. The Project Blue ships to date have included four innovative new coastal cats and patriot class flagship, American Patriot, which launched in June 2025.
