WorkBoat only issues 10 Significant Boat Awards each year. The first was given for Jensen’s designs of overnight expe- dition cruise vessels National Geographic Quest and National Geographic Venture, owned by PVA Vessel member Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, Inc., of New York, N.Y. The other was a tug. For the two 100-person expedi- tion cruise boats, Jensen provided detailed design and production engi- neering services. The company also used 3D modeling allowing Lindblad Expeditions the opportunity to confirm the 238-foot vessel’s layout, mainte- nance envelopes and operational access prior to construction. This meant that all the details of the structural, electri- cal, mechanical and HVAC systems of the vessel were combined into one comprehensive, full-size 3D computer model, resulting in a virtual vessel that could be inspected early in the design process for safety, maintainability and constructability. Now fully construct- ed, the duo is operating tours between Baja, Costa Rica and Panama during the winter months and Southeast Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Canada during the summer months. The U.S.-flag, coastal cruise ships were built by PVA Associate member Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) at their shipyard in Freeland, WA. “It’s been exciting to watch the Jensen team receive national recogni- tion for innovative designs by WorkBoat for three years running,” said Bryan Nichols, director, business develop- ment at Jensen. WorkBoat has honored Jensen with Significant Boat awards for years for tugboats, barges, and fireboats. n Jensen Maritime Honored with 2018 Significant Boat Awards Jensen Maritime Consultants won best design award for Lindblad’s National Geographic’s Venture
